8 Day Mangistau tour

Meeting at the airport. Drive to the hotel. Check in. Free time. Aktau port city is a center of the region. It is a well-developed modern city with quite good infrastructure. There is a wide range of hotels (starting from guesthouses up to five star hotels), restaurants and cafes. It is highly recommended to have a walk along the seafront (6$ per person) and you would definitely enjoy eating local fish (sturgeon and mullet) in one of those fancy restaurants located nearby. We’re going to visit the lake with fossil turtle, have a walk on “ground-that-fell-through” and visit one of the underground mosques. Lunch while driving. Dinner and overnight in tents in Kapamsai gorge. D – camp Camping

Breakfast. Today we’re going to visit two fantastic spots – Torish, a field of stone balls, and Sharkala mount. Torish, a valley of stone balls, is one of the most captivating spots in Mangistau. Scientists are still arguing for already 250 years about the origin of those stone balls.

Breakfast. Today we’re going to visit Sherkala is a legendary mount with a fortress that has been built here in the Middle Ages. That fortress used to keep watch and ward caravan track of the Great Silk Road. “Sherkala” means “Lion Mount” or “Lion’s fortress” in Turk language. We also going to see a multi-color Kokala canyon.
Airakty and Shomanai castle valleys, and then enjoy the view of а sharply white Tuzbayir area. It’s a majestic creature of nature. This is the place where Ustyurt plateau suddenly turns into a cascade of chalkstone stairs. Those stairs end with a widely spread white alkali soil, they call it “sor” in here. Lunch while driving. Breakfast. This day is going to be breathtaking because we’re going to head to Boszhira area. On our way to Boszhira we’re going to visit Beket Ata, the biggest well-known mosque. Boszhira area is full of outstanding and breathtaking landmarks of Mangistau nature. It is a chain of residual hills on the outskirts of west cliff of Ustyurt plateau. Breakfast. This day you will never forget! After a nice breakfast, you will have two options: to climb up the hill and do a walk or just relax & drive to the most epic view point you have ever seen! Just imagine infinite space of white clay dessert on hundreds of kilometres around and suddenly two sharp stone formations called Boszhira Tusks. It’s impossible to describe these feelings you will have standing on the edge of dangerously high precipice watching panorama from another planer. You just need to go and see it! After such an active start of the day, we will drive to another miracle on the west of Ustyurt plateau – Bokty Mountain. Actually, locals were not so kind to this beautiful mountain – Bokty from the Kazakh language translates as a dung heap. But don’t be tricked by a local sense of humour – the view is really spectacular. After silent admiration in front of Bokty mountain we will drive for our last camping destinations, which is as usually simply fantastic – can you imagine hills where instead of grass shiny crystals are growing right from the soil? Well, you will have plenty of time to check! We organize overnight stay at the highest point of the Ustyurt cliff. If we do not make noise, grazing argali are visible on the slopes of the depression. , the dirt road along the picturesque sand dunes overgrown with saxaul leads to the south. After another 60 km, we turn to the east, where the Three Brothers cliffs stand proud. Here, on the southern tip of the Karyn-Zharyk hollow on the bank of a salty stream is the cordon of the Ustyurt reserve.
We organize overnight stay at the highest point of the Ustyurt cliff. If we do not make noise, grazing argali are visible on the slopes of the depression. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner prepared by our Guide. Overnight in a tent camp.

The last day of our adventure to the unknown planet Ustyurt will be quite relaxed. We are going back to Aktau city, on the way we will stop again near Bokty mountain, visit beautiful sand dunes near Seneka village, see real working oil-pumps near Zhana-Ozen town, drive through Karagie depression – the lowest point of all Central Asian region with -132 meters lower than ocean level. By 4-5 pm, we will already be in the city so you could enjoy your well-deserved rest in your hotel room.
